Mid-century Modern Era Collection
A collection featuring vintage items from the Mid-Century Modern era of the mid 20th century, primarily the 1950s-1970s.
What are the characteristics of the mid-century modern (a.k.a. "midcentury" or "MCM") design style era? The first design era in history to break away from traditional opulent and highly ornamental as the luxury standard, characterized by its clean and sleek design elements, cohesive and structured use of colour, and seemingly effortless combination aesthetics, form and function. Minimalistic in contrast to its more formal predecessor: art deco and art nouveau. Notable recognizable aspects of this era include use of medium toned wood such as teak and walnut, the "atomic" subcategory, "brutalism" design style and a largely Scandinavian influence.
Postmodern design style has seen a resurgence in the 2010s and 2020s in décor, product design and architecture.
